The Novel

Coming soon...the novel about my brief but eventful teaching career. It shall be called "Walk Quietly but Carry a Big Stick" kidding...not quite sure what the title will be but I'd like to create an anecdotal novel that discusses the issues of public education. I don't want it to be a haughty dissertation. I just want it to be a very realistic look into teaching in the urban context.

Teach Boy Teach (September 10, 2009)

...finally a place where my teaching outcries can be heard, read and echoed. (Inhales/Exhales)

I've only taught for a school year and a month, but I have already accrued some uplifting, awesome, horrific, poignant, shocking, inspiring and down-right depressing stories. And that was just last week (lol). It's time for the world to listen to, know, appreciate and understand the struggles of a novice teacher and not just a teacher, a teacher in the "urban" setting. When I say I'm in the trenches...I mean I'm in the trenches. But I signed up to be here and I'm glad to be here on most days. These kids need me, us and anyone who's passionate about seeing them become better people. While I try to maintain positivity, this is a source for purging my emotions so it will be just that. The language will be as frank & forthright as I feel at the time. With that said, I have to maintain anonymity for obvious reasons i.e. me not getting fired. Welcome to my caffeine-ridden, Red Bull chuggin' life. Btw, I'm sitting at parent-teacher conferences and 3 4 5 parents out of 120 students have shown up. SMH.
